"Franklin Physical Therapy got me to the start and their hearts brought me to the finish!' A close friend of mine recommended Franklin Physical Therapy and said they'd take good care of me. She was right! From the minute I walked through the door the staff made me feel exceedingly comfortable.

The treatment plan and exercises were always explained thoroughly. They addressed all of my questions and I never felt rushed during my appointments. The upbeat staff got to know me as a person, which truly helped me remain positive! I learned so many things from them and without a doubt feel like I've become a better runner. On April 19, 2010, I fulfilled my dream of running the Boston Marathon. Thank you Franklin Physical Therapy!"

Do I need a referral for Physical Therapy?

Massachusetts allows direct access to physical therapy...

Many people think a physician referral is required for physical therapy, but this is not the case. Most states, including Massachusetts, allow patients to access physical therapy directly.

In other words, a member of the public does not need to secure a referral from a physician or other health care practitioner in order to receive physical therapy services. The public is best served when access is unrestricted.

An individual who has experienced a musculoskeletal injury (with or without a diagnosis by a physician) may access a physical therapist directly for care of the injury or condition.

In the event that the physical therapist suspects, for example, that an acute bone fracture or tendon rupture has occurred, the physical therapist must refer the patient to another appropriate health care provider (such as an orthopedic physician) before initiating physical therapy treatment.

The public may consult a physical therapist directly to receive guidance in physical conditioning, injury prevention techniques, and a variety of other services.
